Cairns Base Hospital - Block D

Joint Venture Consultancy with Daryl Jackson Architecture and McConnel Smith Johnson.

This is a significant redevelopment of an existing hospital campus including a major new clinical building (Block D). An improved Masterplan provides rationally linking between and within departments with intuitive wayfinding systems and a pedestrian "hospital street". Block D represents a significant shift for the campus structure via the relocation of inpatient services to the north end of the site. Outdoor undercover entry areas provide sheltered connectivity between the esplanade, foreshore and the new block E car park. The three podium floors anchor the building with a solid base from which the inpatient tower blocks emerge, achieving good solar orientation and the maximum outlook for patients and staff alike, with efficient and functional inpatient floor planning.
