Mt St Bernard

Fisher Buttrose Architects successfully incorporated multi-storey development while maintaining the Herberton streetscape scale, by carefully master-planning the steep site of Mount St Bernard College.

FaB have designed and project managed.

The boarding accommodation design reflects the school's contemporary approach to boarding facilities, avoiding traditional dormitories, in favour of private rooms and bathrooms, with shared living/recreational spaces. Student safety and security requirements are incorporated into the plan, with a reception area, sick bay, visitor's flat and overnight room for supervisors.

The masterplanning of Mount St Bernard College by Fisher and Buttrose is creating a contemporary secondary education facility for 360 students. In this process the old Convent is being sensitively converted into new teaching, administration and residential facilities. Cramped unsafe areas are being opened up for activity spaces. A combination of new and renovated boarding accommodation in light colours and airy tropical design provide privacy and security ultimately for 154 residential students.

State of the art library, and specialist teaching spaces have been constructed in this ongoing multi storey development on a steep site while maintaining Herberton's streetscape scale.
